Our Principal Conductor is David Thomas, G.R.S.M., A.R.C.M., Cert. Ed..
He was educated at Hereford Cathedral School, and the Royal College of Music, London, studying trumpet, piano.
After graduation he was Head of Music at a Herefordshire High School for over twenty years.
He was also conductor of the local G & S Society for over 15 years, as well Choirmaster and then Bandmaster at Hereford Salvation Army.
In 1996, he took early retirement, but continued to teach brass and conduct a Herefordshire County Orchestra for the Education Authority's Music Service, up to 2009.
Having played trumpet in the Band since 1990, he took over the role of Conductor in 1997.
Our Assistant Conductor is Colin Hales,
MMus, BMus, MCGI, LRSM.
A cornet player, he joined the Army in 1991, and studied at Kneller Hall. He was a player in the REME Band, and then Bandmaster positions with The Dragoon Guards, the Pakistan Army’s School of Music, The Queen’s Division Band, The Royal Corps of Signals, The Royal Artillery Band, The Life Guards Band and The Household Cavalry Band, and also conductor of the Sandhurst Military Wives Choir.
He retired in 2017 ~ and now keeps busy as a player, conductor, an teacher.
We have a Retired Salvation Army Bandmaster playing with us, and he, Ken Farr, conducts us too, occasionally. Ken has over 80 years experience as a Cornet Player, Conductor and Teacher.
The band also has an Associate Conductor, Leigh Phillips. He is a Tutor in Film-music composition at The London College of Music and is very busy as a composer and arranger.
